Andrew MacDonald is a partner in the law firm Markson MacDonald. Andrew graduated from the University of Toronto, Trinity College, with a Specialist in Economics and History in 1987. He obtained his law degree from University of Ottawa Law School in 1990. Andrew was the winner of the Nelligan Power mooting award for his performance at the Gale Cup National Mooting Competition in Toronto in 1989. He placed third at the International Securities Moot at Fordham University in New York City in 1990. Andrew was a senior editor of the University of Ottawa Law Review. He was called to the Ontario Bar in February 1992 after completing his Articles with the firm of Fraser Beatty. Andrew’s practice is predominantly corporate, commercial and securities litigation with sub-specialties in employment law and entertainment law. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, Ontario Court of Appeal, the Divisional Court, the Federal Court, the Superior Court of Justice (Estates Court, the Commercial Court and Bankruptcy Court), Provincial Court (Criminal), Masters Court, and various administrative tribunals. He has also conducted proceedings under the Class Proceedings Act, leave applications to the Supreme Court of Canada and participated in numerous alternative dispute resolution mediations. Andrew is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Metropolitan Lawyer’s Guild, the Canadian Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association of Ontario (Litigation Section), the Advocate’s Society, the Thomas More Lawyer’s Guild, The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN), the Boulevard Club, the National Club and the Yacht and Racquet Club of Boca Raton. Andrew performs pro bono work through “The Lawyer Referral Service” and has been a member of that program for 6 years. He is also on the roster of lawyers assigned to the Child Advocacy Project, a division of Pro Bono Law Ontario acting for disadvantaged youth. Andrew has performed volunteer work at Sick Children’s Hospital and the Toronto Grace Hospital. Andrew played rugby with the Yeoman Club for four years. He completed the New York City marathon in November 2000 and the Chicago marathon in October 2002. He is also a singer/songwriter and has released 3 music CD’s.
